HIMSS25 Annual Conference & Exhibition  |  Las Vegas

Though the HIMSS Annual Conference is normally completely rebranded each year based on market insights and current design trends, the award-winning design of 2025 was an evolution of the prior year’s “Creating Tomorrow’s Health” brand. For 2025, I created all branding elements as well as worked closely with Informa and Freeman (the signage and exhibition company) to ensure proper execution across all media types; print, digital, and video. My responsibilities for this conference included web presence, experiential design, motion graphics, and venue design/decoration as well as audio/visual design. The conference regularly sees 30,000+ attendees each year. If you could see it, I touched it.

Each year after brand and theme is set, I write and compile a simple yet comprehensive style guide outlining branding, art, typography, and imagery to be used by junoior designers and contractors like Freeman.

HIMSS25 Europe Annual Conference & Exhibition  |  Paris

Along with the US conference, HIMSS also hosts brother and sister conferences in Europe and Asia-Pacific. These conferences take on the same branding as their US parent conference, with adjustments for region and locality. Again, my responsibilities included everything from the web to the venue, and everything in between.

HIMSS Connect Booth

The onsite home base for HIMSS at any conference is HIMSS Connect. This expansive booth was created to address the issue of HIMSS having multiple booths throughout each show – it’s a one stop shop for all things HIMSS. This booth also represents one of the first public reveals of HIMSS’s new branding after the 2019 rebrand, so careful consideration was taken to encompass all business units as well as amplify the brand’s new look and voice. The booth features two theaters at either end that can hold education sessions, meet and greets, and book signings.

A key feature of this booth is a roughly 8′ x 6.5′ video wall I created that encompasses everything HIMSS does and stands for in leading the way for change in health tech.

Accelerate by HIMSS

An app created by HIMSS solely for health tech professionals. Similar to LinkedIn, health tech professionals use the app for networking, education and event planning. While still in the HIMSS brand wheelhouse, it is wholly different. This work involved a great deal of UX/UI design and included a companion booth that was created to introduce Accelerate to the world.

HIMSS.org Overhaul

Working with outside design and development agency Merkle, HIMSS rebuilt their site from the ground up. During this project I was deeply involved on a near daily basis with developers and designers as we built a fresh new HIMSS web experience. I provided all art direction, imagery and art, as well as site UX/UI and organization recommendations. I consider this to be one of the most rewarding projects of my entire career!

HIMSS Statement Infographic

This infographic represents one of the very first pieces created in the newer “2.0” brand evolution, spearheaded by myself. Evolving the HIMSS brand from its 2019 roots included bringing the brand into a modern era with more layout flexibility, depth using layering and angled elements to create interest. The infographic tells the story of HIMSS by guiding viewers through mini “art installations” in each section, creating a unique visual story for each section while keeping the piece cohesive. The digital-first design was later repurposed as a printed tri-fold and PowerPoint slide show. This piece required intensive collaboration with copywriters and stakeholders across the entire organization.

HIMSS23 Annual Conference & Exhibition

For HIMSS23, I was trying to break some of the typical HIMSS design rules, pushing the boundaries a tad. This conference was the recipient of a MarCom Platinum award. I handled concepting, design and branding through a lengthy lead up to the show. During the show I was responsible for nearly all visual elements including social presence, web presence, signage, set design and motion graphics through a series of promo videos. This conference was a record breaker by roughly 15,000 people in terms of attendees, HIMSS23 welcomed nearly 43,000 from across the globe; a testament to the connection that was felt to the theme and brand.
